Darla Hewett - Darla is a mathematician with extensive experience in business process modeling. While at Boeing Computer Services from 1981 to 1988, she moved into a management position in the Teleprocessing Systems Technology group, which was recognized as a leader in minicomputer and personal computer database technologies. From 1988 to 1996 she was a consultant, designing and implementing over 95 applications for a variety of small businesses in areas from finance to sales analysis to employee performance measurement. From 1996 to 2004 she was co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Quantum Dynamics, Inc., where she developed and patented Fluid Object Modeling, for flexible modeling of workflow processes. Fluid Object Modeling has been used to produce enterprise management software for manufacturing, transportation and retail sales applications.

Darla has worked to drive radical simplicity into business process modeling and computer application development. Radical simplicity demands that models adapt to the precise needs of the user. Her work has demonstrated that software systems, including enterprise systems, can be designed to adapt to the precise needs of an organization. Using rules and knowledge, Fluid Object Modeling allows enterprise-level systems to be generated and easily modified by non-programmers.

Darla holds a Bachelor degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics, summa cum laude, from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.

Micheal Hewett - Mike creates systems for effective rule-based processing of large, complex bodies of rules and highly-interconnected knowledge. Most tasks involve making decisions, which are best formulated as a set of rules. Systems that combine sequential programming models with event-based rule activation are very powerful and often simpler to develop and maintain than standard programs.

Mike has an extensive background in design and development of software for rule-based knowledge management and processing. His software has been used both in scientific research and in several corporate projects. He was the lead developer of BB1, the premier blackboard system of the late 1980s. He also is the lead developer of Algernon, an open source rule engine that has become one of the two most popular rule engines used with Protege knowledge bases.

Mike has worked at IBM and in the Stanford University Knowledge Systems Lab, the Stanford Medical Informatics group, and the Stanford Department of Genetics.

Micheal holds a Bachelor degree in Mathematics from Washburn University, Bachelor degrees in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas, a Masters in Computer Science/Artificial Intelligence from Stanford University, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin.
